Mostly Manufactured - SotW [Week of 3-28-10]

Sticky tac didn't hold today and I finished a book. It's a little bit epic how opposite of now I pictured myself. It can take 2 hours to get somewhere 15 minutes away. Sort of like knowing it's a black pen, until the ink comes out blue. Simply, expectations.

SotW 3/28:
Sacrifice (Reprise) The Expendables

Where I would have been with a different plan
Like the tide upon the sand
It washed away from me
Opportunities to where I stand
Sometimes I feel so empty handed
Cuz we're not the only ones
Who will understand me

It’s such a sacrifice inside
Somebody clear these stormy skies
It’s such a sacrifice inside
Somebody clear these stormy skies

We’ll never ever loose sight of our goals
Won’t let go
And even though we're a little bit older
The truth is colder
Got to work….got to make that money
I hope its something
Cause we're not the only ones
Who can make this happen
The current is so strong

It’s such a sacrifice inside
Somebody clear these stormy skies
It’s such a sacrifice inside
Somebody clear these stormy skies

The current is so strong

And I can’t fight no more
And how I long to be on that stable shore
If we could only step outside the shade
And in the games we play
The threat of uncertainty
Has carried me out to sea

It’s such a sacrifice inside
Somebody clear these stormy skies
It’s such a sacrifice inside
Somebody clear these stormy skies

Looking for a space - SotW [Week of 3-21-10]

There has been a rubberband around my wrist all day, and I just noticed. I must have put it there. The deeper I look into the ocean, the more I love getting lost in it. I don't like to be alone, but sometimes, I love getting lost. It is quite a conquering feeling to be found.

SotW 3/21:
Hymn #101 Joe Pug

Font size

And I've come to know the wish list of my father
I've come to know the shipwrecks where he wished
I've come to wish allowed
Among the overdressed crowd
Come to witness now the sinking of the ship
Throwing pennies from the sea top next to it

And I've come to roam the forest
Past the village
With a dozen lazy horses in my cart
I've come here to get high
To do more than just get by
I've come to test the timber of my heart
Oh I've come to test the timber of my heart

And I've come
To be untroubled in my seeking
And I've come
To see that nothing is for not
I've come to reach out blind
To reach forward and behind
For the more I seek
The more I'm sought
Yea the more I seek
The more I'm sought

And I've come to meet the sheriff
And his posse
To offer him the broad side of my jaw
I've come here to get broke
And maybe bum a smoke
We'll go drinking two towns over after all
Oh we'll go drinking two towns over after all

And I've come to meet the legendary takers
I've only come to ask them for a lot
Aw they say I come with less
Than I should rightfully possess
I say: The more I buy
The more I'm bought
And the more I'm bought
The less I cost

And I've come
To take their servants and their surplus
And I've come
To take their rain coats and their speed
I've come to get my fill
To ransack and spill
I've come to take the harvest for the seed
I've come to take the harvest for the seed

And I've come to know the manger that you sleep in
I've come to be the stranger that you keep
I've come from down the road
And my footsteps never slowed
Before we met I knew we'd meet
Before we met I knew we'd meet

And I've come here to ignore you cries and heartaches
I've come to closely listen to you sing
I've come here to insist
That I leave here with a kiss
I've come to say exactly what I mean
And I mean so many things

And you've come
To know me stubborn as a butcher
And you've come
To know me thankless as a guest
But will you recognize my face
When god's awful grace
Strips me of my jacket and my vest
And reveals all the treasure in my chest.

Red Coffee Cup - SotW [Week of 3-14-10]

It rained a lot this week. In the long run of life, I won't remember that. Also, I learned what a gecko sounds like. Some things are life-changing when four minutes ago you thought it was part of your past, and five minutes later it's a new fact.

SotW 3/14:
OMGCD The Low Anthem

When I go, when I go
Sure don't know, where I'm going
I look up high, I look down low
Sure don't know where I'm going when I go

Just do your job, and I'll do mine
I'll do my best to hold the line
Do my best, like Charlie says
You don't eat here, you're not to sleep, you hold the line

Oh my God, Oh my God, Charlie Darwin where are you now?
I set these tiresome codes down where you lay
Oh my God, Oh my God, it ain't nothing but the cold hard ground
My better half will stay, My better half will stay, My better half will stay,

but I will go

[Can't find a good youtube of this song, go and watch a different Low Anthem song.. it's a goodun: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kkUfDRIxI4 ]

Craziest shit I did all day - SotW [Week of 3-7-10]

Oy, skydiving! You rocked. So much anticipation, only resulting in something I could have never guessed. Story of my trip thus far, in fact.

SotW 3/7:
I Feel Free Cream

ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, I feel free.

Feel when I dance with you,
We move like the sea.
You, you're all I want to know.
I feel free, I feel free, I feel free.

I can walk down the street, there's no one there
Though the pavements are one huge crowd.
I can drive down the road, my eyes don't see,
Though my mind wants to cry out loud.

I feel free, I feel free, I feel free.

I can walk down the street, there's no one there
Though the pavements are one huge crowd.
I can drive down the road; my eyes don't see,
Though my mind wants to cry out loud,
Though my mind wants to cry out loud.

Dance floor is like the sea,
Ceiling is the sky.
You're the sun and as you shine on me,
I feel free, I feel free, I feel free.

No Idea - SotW [Week of 2-28-10]

This song has relatively nada to do with this week, other than that it was stuck in my head because it has a absurdly dark and catchy chorus. First week of class. yay?

SotW 2/28:
Bloodline Matt Morris

She was a girl livin' in the city,
Clingin' to old religion,
Prayin for electricity,
To keep it warm for the little ones.

Nobody made her wise,
To the things a girl might find,
In a belly of a hungry man,
Who don't care nothin' about his bloodline.

She got lost in a bloodline,
Heavy cost of a bloodline,
She goes on she cries at night,
And keeps alive his bloodline.

So much ridin on a bloodline,
Why's he hiding from a bloodline,
It ain't right she cries at night,
She keeps alive his bloodline.

She heard heaven is invite only,
Reserved for Christian Soldiers,
Not un-wed girls livin' in the city,
Askin' for change from strangers.

But father said, Jesus loves her,
Even though she never married,
God loves her more than the Christians do,
She's part of his holy bloodline.

She got saved in the bloodline,
The price he paid for the bloodline,
Changed her life she cries at night,
She keeps alive his bloodline.

She believes in the bloodline,
Lives and breathes by the bloodline,
With all her might, she cries at night,
And keeps alive his bloodline.

I know I should have never left her,
To shoulder all the burden,
She probably won't forgive me,
God might not either.

I made a cross,
And lay it on her back,
But I never broke her spirit,
And she owes that to her bloodline.

She stayed strong for the bloodline,
I did wrong by the bloodline,
She went on, she cried at night,
And kept alive the bloodline.

Sacrifice for the bloodline,
Paid the price for the bloodline,
All her life she cried at night,
And kept alive the bloodline.

She cried at night and kept alive the bloodline.

Life Suggestions? Anyone? - SotW [Week of 2-21-10]

Even when i'm in one place, I'm going places that I've never been. You can never be somewhere long enough to understand it; Less fun alone not because of the experience but because it is less fulfilling to reminisce about something no one else remembers. I am reminded of people I have lost. There are few choices but to be on the road again and love home more than ever.

On The Road Again Willie Nelson

On the road again
Just can't wait to get on the road again.
The life I love is making music with my friends
And I can't wait to get on the road again.

On the road again
Goin' places that I've never been.
Seein' things that I may never see again
And I can't wait to get on the road again.
On the road again
Like a band of gypsies we go down the highway
We're the best of friends,
Insisting that the world keep turning our way
And our way
is on the road again.
Just can't wait to get on the road again.
The life I love is makin' music with my friends
And I can't wait to get on the road again.

On the road again
Like a band of gypsies we go down the highway
We're the best of friends
Insisting that the world keep turning our way
And our way
is on the road again.
Just can't wait to get on the road again.
The life I love is makin' music with my friends
And I can't wait to get on the road again.
And I can't wait to get on the road again.

Leapin' - SotW [Week of 2-14-10]

If there was a legitimate chance that the mountains would not be here upon my return, I probably would not leave. Trust is not always trust and love is not always love, but I trust that the ones I love, the things that make me happy, and ideas that keep me going will still be with me. So much has happened recently to prove that people can be a world together. By leaving what I know and love and need not leave, but leave by choice, the only change I anticipate is growth. No regrets. Right now I feel like Moonshadow and The Trapeze Swinger.

This week's song is for Haiti, and for the silly day of love that was on Sunday. I love you all. A lot.

:)

SotW 2/14:

Be Right Back - SotW [Week of 2-7-10]

I really entertain myself when I unconsciously attend to absent technology. Like... this one time.. or last night... when I put my hands under the faucet in a red robin bathroom and waited for quite some time for the automatic water to turn on. Good thing no one else saw me acting like a total idiot and laughing at myself when I realized it was not automatic after all. We all get older everyday. It does not mean that we are all headed for somewhere at the same pace; or even somewhere at all. Here's a good 90s song for you.

SotW 2/7:
Sunny Came Home Shawn Colvin

Sunny came home to her favorite room
Sunny sat down in the kitchen
She opened a book and a box of tools
Sunny came home with a mission

She says days go by I'm hypnotized
I'm walking on a wire
I close my eyes and fly out of my mind
Into the fire

Sunny came home with a list of names
She didn't believe in transcendence
It's time for a few small repairs she said
Sunny came home with a vengeance

She says days go by I don't know why
I'm walking on a wire
I close my eyes and fly out of my mind
Into the fire

Get the kids and bring a sweater
Dry is good and wind is better
Count the years, you always knew it
Strike a match, go on and do it

Days go by I'm hypnotized
I'm walking on a wire
I close my eyes and fly out of my mind
Into the fire
Light the sky and hold on tight
The world is burning down
She's out there on her own and she's alright
Sunny came home
Sunny came home...

Packing means I'm going somewhere - SotW [Week of 1-31-10]

I am rarely ready for alarms to go off. Who is, right? You don't need them when you're ready for it. That's the whole point. Hmm, there is a lot on my mind. Take thatand put it in your back pocket.

Don't forget to listen to the song.

SotW 1/24:
Gotta Have You The Weepies

Gray, quiet, and tired and mean
Picking at a worried seam
I try to make you mad at me over the phone.
Red eyes and fire and signs
I'm taken by a nursery rhyme
I want to make a ray of sunshine and never leave home

No amount of coffee, no amount of crying
No amount of whiskey, no amount of wine
No, no, no, no, no, nothing else will do
I've gotta have you, I've gotta have you.

The road gets cold, there's no spring in the middle this year
I'm the new chicken clucking open hearts and ears
Oh, such a prima donna, sorry for myself
But green, it is also summer
And I won't be warm till I'm lying in your arms

No amount of coffee, no amount of crying
No amount of whiskey, no amount of wine
No, no, no, no, no, nothing else will do
I've gotta have you, I've gotta have you.

I see it all through a telescope: guitar, suitcase, and a warm coat
Lying in the back of the blue boat, humming a tune...

No amount of coffee, no amount of crying
No amount of whiskey, no wine
No, no, no, no, no, nothing else will do
I've gotta have you, I've gotta have you.

No amount of coffee, no amount of crying
No amount of whiskey, no amount of wine
No, no, no, no, no, nothing else will do
I've gotta have you, I've gotta have you.
I've gotta have you, I've gotta have you.
I've gotta have you.

And don't you forget it - SotW [Week of 1-24-10]

I could not wait to put this song up, yet... when the day came, I forgot. Sometimes greatness carries with it too much anticipation, and once forgotten, it proves to be quite the opposite of great. It takes remembering to bring it all back. Simple, but incredibly difficult to do with some things which are more easily ignored. If you forget something great, it's never too late to remember it.

SotW 1/24:
Bottom of the River Adam Arcuragi

Well I am in love with something invisible
And though no one can make sense of where it's from,
I'm sure as all my bones
So lay my head and feet to point north and south
I will try to be a compass if you smile
and deign to take me home

I will lay on the bottom of that river
Spending my time where old sorts go to die
Engulf the fish at the bottom of that river
Lift a song into the night
So that the moon won't have to die

I will collect all the hammers and I will make them ring
When the slowly swollen eyes are not enough
And I will walk down the road until I can hear her sing
She can pass her coded message through my clothes
And assure me that she's sure

I will lay on the bottom of that river
Spending my time where old sorts go to die
Engulf the fish at the bottom of that river
Lift a song into the night
So that the moon won't have to die

Well come up slow
And drag your voice out into the light
With the rough cover it provides you to shine
Now here we go down the hill fast faster no keel no bow
Though you can smell them in my blood, forget the start
Cause they're all dead by now

I will lay on the bottom of that river
Spending my time where old sorts go to die
Engulf the fish at the bottom of that river
Lift a song into the night
So that the moon won't have to die

Just too many - SotW [Week of 1-17-10]

It is already the third week of the year, and it is snowing outside. So far, this beginning has resulted in many ends. It is too bad that it took an earthquake for the world to glance at Haiti. There are some good hearts, but life surely isn't made of gold.

SotW 1/17:
Day Is Done Nick Drake

When the day is done
Down to earth then sinks the sun
Along with everything that was lost and won
When the day is done.

When the day is done
Hope so much your race will be all run
Then you find you jumped the gun
Have to go back where you begun
When the day is done.

When the night is cold
Some get by but some get old
Just to show life's not made of gold
When the night is cold.

When the bird has flown
Got no-one to call your own
Got no place to call your home
When the bird has flown.

When the game's been fought
Newspapers blow across the court
Lost matches sooner than you would have thought
Now the game's been fought.

When the part is through
Seems so very sad for you
Didn't do the things you meant to do
Now there's no time to start anew
Now the part is through.

When the day is done
Down to earth then sinks the sun
Along with everything that was lost and won
When the day is done.

It's like summer, but not. - SotW [Week of 1-10-10]

What is worth more than most everything? That would be time. What do I find myself having a lot of right now? Well, time. What does that make me? Um, richest girl ever?

SotW 1/10:
A Martyr For My Love For You The White Stripes

She was 16 and 6 feet tall
with a crowd of teenagers comin' out of the zoo
She stumbled, start to slip and fall,
teeter tottered on the top of patent leather shoes

I happened to catch her and said,
Maybe these ruby shoes are a little cumbersome for you
maybe for you.. now..

But not as shaky as I must have seemed,
talkin' junk to forgive a little teenage dream
And on the phone I could not compete
but dumb luck fake confidence was getting weak

And for a sec I thought I sounded sweet,
but sure enough in a gruff faint voice
I heard myself speak

I could stay awhile,
but sooner or later I'll break your smile
And I can tell a joke,
but one of these days I'm bound to choke

And we could share a kiss
But I feel like I can't go through with this
And I bet we could build a home
But I know the right thing for me to do
Is to leave you alone.. leave you alone now..

I'm beginning to like you,
so you probably won't get what I'm going to do
I'm walkin' away from you,
it probably don't make much sense to you
But I'm tryin' to save you,
from all of the things that I'll probably say I'll do
I probably do

I could stay awhile,
but sooner or later I'll break your smile
And I can tell a joke,
but one of these days I'm bound to choke

And we might share a kiss
But I feel like I can't go through with this
And I bet we could build a home
But I know the right thing for me to do
Is to leave you alone
leave you alone, now

You'll probably call me a fool
and say I'm doing exactly what a coward would do
And I'm beginning to like you,
it's a shame what a lame way to live, but what can I do?
I hope you appreciate what I do
I'm a martyr for my love for you

Some days, all the trees are white - SotW [Week of 1-3-10]

So, today on the news there was this toddler who had a burned mouth because she was chewing on an ipod cord attached to a computer. Don't we teach our offspring to not put their fingers in electrical sockets, or perhaps to not chew on electrical cords? Ok, lo siento to the family, but really? This stuff makes the news? Followed by something like "food has calories!" and "lock your ipod cords up in a safe so your kid doesn't gnaw on it!" I'm not angry; just thoroughly entertained. I don't even have to turn on Jon Stewart! Anyway, listen to this song... put it on your ipod... but be sooo hella careful if you leave your cord hanging. You've been warned.

SotW 1/3:
Neighborhood #4 (7 Kettles) Arcade Fire

I am waitin' 'til I don't know when,
cause I'm sure it's gonna happen then.
Time keeps creepin' through the neighborhood,
killing old folks, wakin' up babies
just like we knew it would.

All the neighbors are startin' up a fire,
burning all the old folks the witches and the liars.
My eyes are covered by the hands of my unborn kids,
but my heart keeps watchin'
through the skin of my eyelids.

They say a watched pot won't ever boil,
well I closed my eyes and nothin' changed,
just some water getting hotter in the flames.

It's not a lover I want no more,
and it's not heaven I'm pining for,
but there's some spirit I used to know,
that's been drowned out by the radio.

They say a watched pot won't ever boil,
you can't raise a baby on motor oil,
just like a seed down in the soil
you gotta give it time.

Today, I'm younger than I'll ever be - SotW [Week of 12-27-09]

Two drastically different new years. John leaving the Chili Peppers nearly describes the difference between a year ago from last night, and last night. It is brilliant being where I am, "nowhere man." It feels like it used to, never knowing what is going to happen next. Yet, I still struggle to plan, inevitable yes. Ciao 2009, you've been good to me. Year personified.

SotW 12/27:
Song To Sing When I'm Lonely John Frusciante

A song to play when I'm lonely
Win and never play a game again
No one to face when I'm falling
Holding tight to dreams that never end
I'll be you
I do
I'll be you
No one's afraid to be called by another name
No one dares to be put down where they don't belong
Nowhere's anyone's reason
Everything dying and leaving
Out with these faults and you make me a baby
Faking a movement by no one's seeing it
No one always find peace flung
No one chooses to beat my pride down
Symbols pierce right through me
People fail to be drawn up
Sunlight to fate accumulates
Loving pain to be clung to
By lumimous bodies
Only waiting for long signs to be wrong
And true to us
Out of place in my own time
Drowning thinkin that I'm dry
Holding on to facts that'll never be proven
Faking an action cause no one's looking
Hello when I'm crashing
Feel nothing when my life's flashing before my eyes
You should've threw me down
Is the content so much

You should've threw me down
Is the content so much

You should've threw me down
Is the content so much

You should've threw me down
Is the content so much

Don't worry, I am - SotW [Week of 12-20-09]

It is great to get away, but from what? In Washington I have a different family, a crazy family :) but Colorado is where I will always, ALWAYS feel at home. None of us have muuuuch time, so we should chill and be happy where we feel we belong. If I had not left though, returning would not be the same. Wontcha come home? Hell yes, helllll yes I will, thanks.

SotW 12/20:
Wontcha Come Home G. Love & Special Sauce

Darlin' I've been waitin' while you've gone and done your changin',
But you know that I don't got much time.
Still everywhere I go I see people waiting just like me.
Waiting for you to come on home
I love you darlin', don't leave me alone.

Wontcha come home now?
Wontcha come home now?

Believe me girl I need your love,
No one else will ever take your place.

Wontcha come home now?
Wontcha come home now?
Wontcha come home? Wontcha come home?
Wontcha come home? Wontcha come home?
Wontcha come home now?

I know you got my tricks hiding up your sleeve
But wontcha take a ride and stay with me?
We can take a walk underneath the moonlight
While the guitar strums to the rhythm so tight

There's no need for looking when you found what you need
'Cause I got you and you got me
There's no need for lookin when you found what you need
So come on home darlin', set me free

Wontcha come home now?
Wontcha come home now?
Wontcha come home? Wontcha come home?
Wontcha come home? Wontcha come home?
Wontcha come home now?

Wontcha come home? Wontcha come home?
Wontcha come home? Wontcha come home?
Wontcha come home now?

Wontcha come home? Wontcha come home?
Wontcha come home? Wontcha come home?
Wontcha come home now?

Darlin' I've been waiting while you've gone and done your changin',
But you know that I don't got much time.

Oy, let's plan a rendezvous - SotW [Week of 12-13-09]

Since returning to the past isn't exactly possible as of yet, I just gotta return to those times by listening to the songs that I grew up with. Eve 6, hello angst. Almost, but not yet, home. When I get there, let's rendezvous and be as amiable as 4th graders.

SotW 12/13:
Inside Out Eve 6

I would swallow my pride,
I would choke on the rinds,
but the lack thereof would leave me empty inside,
Swallow my doubt
Turn it inside out
Find nothing but faith in nothing.
Want to put my tender heart in a blender,
Watch it spin 'round into a beautiful oblivion.
Rendezvous, then I'm through with you.

I burn, burn like a wicker cabinet,
chalk white and oh so frail.
I see our time has gotten stale.
The tick tock of the clock is painful,
all sane and logical.
I want to tear it off the wall.
I hear words in clips and phrases,
I think sick like ginger ale,
My stomach turns and I exhale.

I would swallow my pride,
I would choke on the rinds,
But the lack thereof would leave me empty inside.
I would swallow my doubt,
turn it inside out,
find nothing but faith in nothing.
Want to put my tender heart in a blender,
watch it spin 'round into a beautiful oblivion.
Rendezvous, then I'm through with you.

SoCal is where my mind states,
but it's not my state of mind.
I'm not as ugly, sad as you.
Or am I origami?
Folded up and just pretend,
demented as the motives in your head.

I would swallow my pride,
I would choke on the rinds,
but the lack thereof would leave me empty inside.
I would swallow my doubt,
turn it inside out,
find nothing but faith in nothing.
Want to put my tender heart in a blender,
watch it spin 'round into a beautiful oblivion.
Rendezvous, then I'm through with you .

I alone am the one you don't know you need
take heed, feed your ego.
Make me blind when your eyes close,
sink when you get close, tie me to the bedpost.

I alone am the one you don't know you need,
you don't know you need me.
Make me blind when your eyes close,
Tie me to the bedpost.

I would swallow my pride,
I would choke on the rinds,
but the lack thereof would leave me empty inside.
Swallow my doubt,
turn it inside out,
find nothing but faith in nothing.
Want to put my tender heart in a blender,
watch it spin 'round to a beautiful oblivion.
Rendezvous, then I'm through,
now I'm through with you...

through with you,

rendezvous then I'm through with you...

Be careful with change - SotW [Week of 12-6-09]

Has always been my favorite Joan song... I'm in love with change, but sometimes people are better off keeping it the way it is. You learn more, right?

SotW 12/6:
Spider Web Joan Osborne

I dreamed about Ray Charles last night and he could see just fine...

I dreamed about Ray Charles last night.
And he could see just fine, you know.
I asked him for a lullaby. He said,
"Honey, I don't sing no more."
No more, no more, no more, Ray don't sing no more.

He said, "Since I got my eyesight back, my voice has just deserted me.
No 'Georgia On My Mind' no more. I stay in bed with M.T.V."
Then Ray took his glasses off and I could look inside his head.
Flashing like a thunderstorm, I saw a shining spider web.

Spider web, spider web, spider web in Ray Charles' head.

I dreamed about Ray Charles last night.
He took me flying in the air. Showed me my own spider web; Said,
"Honey, you had best take care. The world is made of spider webs.
the threads are stuck to me and you. Careful what you're wishing for,
'cause when you gain, you just might lose."

You just might lose your spider web, spider web, spider web Ray Charles said.

When you're feeling lonely, when you're hiding in your bed,
don't forget your string of pearls, don't forget your spider web.
When I go to sleep tonight, don't let me dream of brother Ray.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he sees.
Just like him best the other way.

Spider web, spider web, spider web Ray Charles said.
Spider web, spider web, spider web in Ray Charles' head.

All I got's my spider web, keepin' me alive.
All I got's my spider web, keepin' me alive.

Come on Ray...

[couldn't find a good youtube of this song... you're on your own, lo siento]
